The Metropole will receive the award in a ceremony scheduled to be held at the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel on September 17.

The award honour the hotel for its efforts to revitalise one of Southeast Asia’s most treasured properties, and relaunching the Metropole as the hotel group’s first Legend property.

This year, PATA announced 24 awards for organisations and individuals in the tourism sector. Four PATA Grand Awards are presented to outstanding entries in the four principal categories: Marketing, Education and Training, Environment, and Heritage. This year, the Grand Awards went to Tourism New Zealand in the marketing category; Banyan Tree Spa Academy for education and training; AlamKulKul Boutique Resort, Bali for the environment, and the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in the heritage category.

Conde Nast Traveler, one of the world’s top travel magazines, anticipated PATA’s enthusiasm for the hotel’s heritage in April when it named the hotel on its Hot List.

In 2009, the hotel won recognition on Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List and Travel & Leisure’s list of the best 500 hotels in the world.

The Metropole’s $20 million refurbishment included the development of new facilities, the creation of themed suites and enhancements to furnishings and hardware. The restoration began in 2004 and was completed last year with the Legend launch.
