The Chairman of the People’s Committee of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, Huynh Duc Hoa, said the upgrade of the Lien Khuong Airport will be completed in June 2009.
This airport is designed to serve approximately one million passengers per year. The Vietnam Airlines Corporation has upgraded the runway to meet international standards.
The local authorities have asked the Government’s permission to open some international air routes from Lien Khuong Airport (Da Lat City) to Singapore, South Korea, Laos and Cambodia, to attract foreign tourists and boost its export of vegetables and flowers.
The local government has met with some airways to negotiate the opening of air routes to Lien Khuong. The two sides will cooperate to carry out surveys over the next few months.
Lam Dong also proposed the government resume the Da Lat – Da Nang air route, to open the Da Lat – Can Tho route and to increase the number of flights between Da Lat and HCM City, from two flights to 3-4 flights per day.
The Lien Khuong Airport currently has two flights between Da Lat and HCM City and one flight between Da Lat – Hanoi and vice versa.
