Travel sector to draw 6 million foreign tourists in 2010 - 03/09/2008
Vietnam Administration for Tourism has held a ceremony to review the national action plan on tourism for the 2000-2005 period and announce the action plan for the 2006-2010 period.

After five years of implementation, the 2000-2005 national action plan has recorded great achievements, contributing to the development of the tourism sector.

The image of Vietnam as a safe, friendly and attractive destination has been promoted and consolidated with international tourists, creating a new momentum for the sustainable development of the tourism industry in the early 21st century.

Obstacles to the development have been gradually tackled. The action plan has helped to attract a large number of domestic and international tourists. The total revenue gained by the tourism industry has doubled that of the 1999, earning more than VND 30,000 billion.

Promoting the achievements, the National Administration for Tourism has made the action plan for the 2006-2010, which has been approved by the government.

Under the new plan, Vietnam will do its best to become a developed country in terms of tourism in the region in 2010.

The plan points out three key points: Propaganda and promotion of tourism; maintaining and raising high the image of Vietnam as a new and attractive cultural and eco-tourism destination in order to draw more and more foreigners; and diversifying and improving the quality of tourism products and protecting the natural resources and the environment for the sustainable development.

With the above-said targets, the tourism industry is striving to attract about six million international tourists and 25 million domestic tourists in 2010 with a total revenue of approximately US $5 billion.
