On April 14, the Newopenworld organizing board of permanently removed Ha Long Bay of Vietnam from the contest for seven natural wonders of the world. Previously, the tourist site took the lead in the nomination. According to Quang Ninh People’s Committee, the reason is that some Vietnamese websites violated the copyright of the organization by using its logos and images and copying the content of the website http://www.New7wonders.com for commercial purposes without its permission. This broke the agreement signed between the OSC Ha Long and Newopenworld.
Mr. Ngo Hung, Head of the Ha Long Bay management board said that Vietnam sent a document to Newopenworld pledging to quickly solve these mistakes and apply more technical solutions to prevent any further violations. Moreover, the board will closely coordinate with the Ministry of Information and Communication to promote bringing Ha Long Bay back to the nomination list.
The case rang an alarm on copyright violation for Vietnamese organizations and personals, especially since Vietnam has joined the World Trade Organization (WTO).
