Airlines strengthen alliance - 18/04/2008
VietNamNet Bridge - Japan Airlines (JAL) looks set to strengthen its ties with Vietnam Airlines in an effort to augment the Oneworld air alliance.

At a recent meeting between the two carriers in Tokyo , JAL said it will advise Vietnam Airlines on how to improve its customer services, booking systems, aircraft maintenance and flight operations.

With a view to Vietnamese Airlines eventually joining the Oneworld alliance, which has no Southeast Asian members, JAL will assist its Vietnamese counterpart to lift the quality of its services and technologies to meet Oneworld standards.

JAL hopes that Vietnam Airlines’ participation in the Oneworld network will help to increase the number of flights between the two countries while improving flight connections and customer services.

Trinh Ngoc Thanh of Vietnam Airlines, confirmed on April 16 that the national carrier had held talks with JAL about joining the Oneworld network.

Becoming a member of Oneworld is expected to let Vietnam Airlines intensify cooperation with other airlines, expand its markets, and cut costs, Thanh added.

Vietnam Airlines has reportedly been looking at joining either one of the three airlines alliances: Oneworld, Star or Sky.

The Oneworld network has 10 members at present, including American Airlines, British Airways, Air New Zealand and Qantas Airways.
