Hoping Ha Long Bay soon resumes its position on natural wonders nomination - 19/04/2008

(CPV)- As soon as the Newopenworld temporary removed Ha Long Bay of Vietnam from the contest for seven natural wonders of the world on April 14, a reporter from Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Online Newspaper interviewed Mr. Nguyen Hong Quan, Standing Deputy Chairman of Quang Ninh People’s Committee about the issue.

Reporter: What is the reason why Ha Long Bay was temporary pulled from the seven natural wonders of the world nomination on the website of the NewOpenWorld?

Mr. Quan: The promotion campaign for voting for Ha Long Bay as one of the seven natural wonders of the world was carried out well and it was welcomed by many domestic organizations and foreign friends. However, some organizations in Vietnam used contents from the website for commercial purposes without its permission. This broke the agreement signed between the OSC Ha Long and Newopenworld. .

Reporters: Did NewOpenWorld have concrete regulations and guidance for the use of its website?

Mr. Quan: The NewOpenWorld regulated that organizations using its website must register with them and have concrete contracts. Previously, the Support Committee for Ha Long Bay followed these regulations. We also sent a document including regulated items to organizations participating in the action group but because of shortage of knowledge these organizations unintentionally caused the removal of Ha Long Bay from the poll. On April 7, the NewOpenWorld sent a warning letter asking violating websites to remove illegal contents, but these websites did not comply.

Reporter: What solutions can Quang Ninh Province apply to solve this problem?

Mr. Quan: On April 15, I chaired an urgent meeting with violating websites and asked them stop using illegal content. We also sent a sent a document to the NewOpenWorld promising to quickly solve the violations and apply technical solutions to prevent further copyright violation.

As Head of the Support Committee for Ha Long Bay, I also urged the Ministry of Information and Communication to help address violations so that Ha Long Bay could resume its position in the nomination as soon as possible.

Reporter: Thank you so much!
